We are Living for a Different Kingdom

I have met another angel and he is a student of mine who has Autism. If any of you are familiar with Autism, it is a social disorder which hinders a person to fully connect with people around them. It also gives a person who has this disorder a rare gift of incredible intelligence!

I knew right away that me and this young man, my 6th grade angel would become dear friends. Lucas often seems as though he is in another world, staring around the room, looking at something, thinking about something, seeking something that the rest of us just don't get. When I say good morning to Lucas I rarely get a response, but sometimes I get the rare smile that brightens my day because those days are few and far between. When Lucas connects with me, I take notice and I feel as though there has been a break through.

Lucas reminds me of the concept that I should be living for a different Kingdom. The Kingdom of Heaven. The Kingdom that Jesus teaches through the Beatitudes, that blessed are the Poor in spirit, those who recognize their place for God and recognize their broken state.

When his eyes are wondering and he seems to be in another world, I think of how I should be constantly living for the Kingdom of God. Focusing on the Father's purposes, but also connecting the world with love, just as Lucas connects with me with a simple smile. This is the message this little angel has imparted on me. It is okay if we feel as though we are from another place and have another ruler other than what this world knows. I am a child of God, therefore my focus is heavenward, and my King is Jesus.
